Coming Up at the Astra...
We’ve all heard of Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day, but what about the International Day of Friendship? This day is the perfect opportunity to celebrate all of our friendships and to acknowledge their importance to us. We will be gathering together to have an afternoon tea, along with friendly activities such as card making, story sharing and friendship trivia. Please come along and support us by joining in our fun friendship afternoon.
We are going to celebrate all things literary today, with a number of book-themed activities. We will have a book swap set up, an opportunity for residents and friends to discuss their favourite books, and other activities to be confirmed. Keep an eye out for more details…
Oktoberfest has become an international cause for celebrating with beer, friends and family. So we thought we’d do the same with a lunch for residents, friends and family…and sample some beers while we’re at it. Come along to celebrate with us - prizes for the best Bavarian costumes on the day!
For all of those coffee lovers out there, it’s International Coffee Day, and we intend to raise a cup or two to our favourite bean. Details of an event to follow, but expect some tasting and an exploration of the wonders of coffee at the very least…
Join us for an interactive cake baking session in celebration of ‘Bake a Cake Day’! Bring down your favourite recipes, share tips for baking the perfect cake, and generally have fun while we engage in a little culinary therapy. Even if you don’t love baking, feel free to come and enjoy the fruits of our labours as we share our cake with a cuppa and good friends. Not to be missed!
Why not join us and make a gift in time for Christmas? Make a Gift Day is celebrated on 3rd December, and gives you the opportunity to start thinking about that dreaded present list. Hand-made gifts are always well appreciated, especially by the person in your life who seems to have everything! We will be talking about interesting and unique ideas for gift-making in this session, as well as having hands-on practical activities throughout. Please come along and bring your friends - the more the merrier.
Twice a week at the Astra, residents gather together in the lounge for afternoon tea and a chat. Come along for a cuppa of your choice and a slice of cake - friends and guests welcome at any time.
This week, we have a special event happening alongside afternoon tea! We will have a representative from the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia coming to set up a fun quiz game, filled with questions about Australian Film, TV and Music history. It is a game that can be played by large and small groups, and it will be an experience that entertains, educates and engages with Australian cultural history. Come along and have fun with residents, friends and family.
Waverley Library will be showing a double feature of movies this afternoon: the short silent film Beautiful Bondi followed by the Summer of the Seventeenth Doll. Starring Ernest Borgnine, John Mills, Anne Baxter and Angela Lansbury, some scenes from the latter film were shot at Bondi and the Astra.
Our very own Aaron will be giving a short presentation on the Astra today. Surely this is an event not to be missed. For more information see the library website.
