Jan was one of the models who posed for the Bondi mermaids. She won the Miss Riverina Beauty contest in 1957, which kick-started her modelling career. In 1960, she posed for the famous Bondi mermaids, won the title of Miss Australian Surf, and traveled the world with June Dally-Watkins and Mr. Australian Surf.
